Encan 12 Duchess Anne

The Encan
The "Encan" owes its name to the place where it was imagined and created, the old fish market of La Rochelle.
It is the ideal pocket companion—practical, lightweight, and highly efficient.
The locking system invented by Farol allows the blade to be released with a simple thumb movement, using a spring wire that holds the blade securely in the open position. The blade is mounted with a naval carpentry rivet, giving the knife its exceptional strength.
From the tip of the blade to the end of the handle, everything is crafted entirely in our workshop, with passion and precision.
Duchess Anne
Built in 1901 at the shipyards in Bremerhaven, Germany, this training ship originally sailed under the German flag with a different name: Grossherzogin Elisabeth.
In 1946, it was handed over to the French Navy as war reparations and renamed Duchesse Anne, in honor of Duchess Anne of Brittany, Queen of France from 1491. Initially used as barracks, the ship was abandoned in Lorient in 1970.
During this period, the ship was gradually looted and, unfortunately, fell into severe disrepair.
In 1981, the municipality of Dunkirk, wanting to preserve the memory of an era when the city was a hub for large sailing ships, acquired the vessel for a symbolic one franc, with the goal of transforming it into a floating museum.
An association, Friends of the Duchesse Anne, was established to restore the ship. In 1982, it became the first vessel to benefit from state protection by being classified as a historic monument, which accelerated its restoration. Twenty years of work were needed to return the ship to its former glory.
After two years of preparation, the restoration of this majestic three-masted ship, classified as a historic monument since 1982, began in 2024, with its reopening to the public planned for the summer of 2025.
