Not all models are necessarily available in store, so we have to assemble your knife to order. In all cases, we strive to send all orders within a maximum of 10 days (except in exceptional cases). If this is not possible, we will contact you upon receipt of the order.
Most of the time, we are able to ship your order to you within 48-72 hours (excluding weekends and holidays).
If you have a deadline (gifts...), do not hesitate to contact us directly to find out the availability of a particular knife. We will do our best to deliver before the deadline.
Our blades are entirely made in our workshops in an artisanal manner.
We mainly use Sandvick 12C27Mod steel or Damasteel steels that we cut, then we carry out the quenching, tempering, grinding, polishing, finishing, etc.
Relatively rare in the world of cutlery, this in-house manufacturing allows us to control quality and offer you a 100% Farol product.
Only the blades of the "Cachalots de table", "La Suite" and "Forban" are manufactured in another French company but made with our own tools.
For sharpening, we have selected a range of products that you can find in the "Accessories" category. You can use a sharpening stone, a steel or any other technique that you are familiar with.
Although there are all sorts of methods, the best advice is: sharpen your knife before it stops cutting.
If you are able to come to the workshop, we will be happy to offer you the sharpening of your Farol knife.
Each hand has its own knife!
This is why “le Cachalot” and “l'Encan” exist in 3 sizes: 8, 10 and 12 cm.
Traditionally, the size indicated for a folding knife is that of the total length of its blade, which is roughly equivalent to the length of the closed knife. In a FAROL the heel (the part of the blade that remains in the handle to ensure support and pivoting) measures approximately 2 cm, which implies a difference between the size of the closed knife and the size of the blade edge.
12cm knife = 10cm blade edge
10cm knife = 8cm blade edge
8cm knife = 6cm blade edge
For Sperm Whales, the 12 cm size is generally suitable for a man's hand and the 10 cm for women. The choice of an 8 cm Sperm Whale meets the need for a small knife.
For Auctions, the choice of size is made more according to the use. If an 8 cm is very practical for opening oysters or for DIY, it is very small to use at the table. The 12 cm on the other hand is very pleasant for eating every day. The 10 cm, more versatile, is often used in the kitchen as a paring knife.
If you have any doubts when placing your order, please ask us for advice .
All our knives can be used by right-handed and left-handed people. However, the Cachalot has a locking system that is easier for right-handed people. We can adapt it for left-handed people on request. Do not hesitate to ask us.
