1995
The first Farol knife was born in 1995 in the middle of the Atlantic, in the Azores, extraordinarily beautiful volcanic Portuguese islands.
It is the skipper from La Rochelle, Sylvain Berthommé, who, in the middle of a tour of the Atlantic with his family, shapes his dream piece by piece every evening in the wake. A prototype knife for sailors.
Sperm whale hunting was still practiced shortly before his arrival. It was this impressive animal that would inspire his design for the first knife.

1996
Back in his home port of La Rochelle, the Rochelais skipper sets up his workshop, l'Encan, in a former fishmonger's hut at the port's auction. A place steeped in maritime history.
Farol knives will be manufactured in La Rochelle.
Very quickly, knives crisscrossed all the seas of the globe, racing offshore, fishing, on polar expeditions, on cruising sailboats, etc.

2010
The year 2010 marked a turning point for Farol.
The desire to integrate all stages of manufacturing into the La Rochelle workshop requires finding a larger location.
A second workshop opens in La Pallice.
Working with wood, steel for blades and leather for sheaths is Farol's DNA. We are proud to be one of the few manufacturers of our size to manufacture our knives and leather goods in their entirety.

2013
In 2013, the State recognized our know-how and labeled us EPV (Living Heritage Company).
The EPV label highlights unique companies that know how to combine innovation and tradition, know-how and creation, work and passion, heritage and the future, local and international.

2025
The crew now has 11 people on board: Anne, Audrey, Axel, Christine, Delphine, Elodie, Emmanuelle, Maël, Mathieu, Thibalt and Théo.
Every day they ensure that your knives can accompany you from generation to generation.
